Skills, skills, skills: When working within the Purchasing department at Classic Fine Foods, it is essential to have good communication skills and negotiation abilities, as well as to provide meticulous coordination and follow up. Sourcing new products is hugely important to the business, but the teams also need to constantly consider the logistics and potential impact to the business.

Estimating the potential landed costs for new products, negotiating the best possible prices, the constant monitoring of stock movement and liaising with the sales team on the latest forecasts are just some of the many daily tasks. A great relationship with suppliers is required whilst the team works hard to build and develop new brands within the company. The Purchasing team is the backbone of the company ensuring we have the best products to present to our customers!

I oversee the functions of the logistics department, which include receiving and outbound transportation management, fleet management, warehousing, handling materials, inventory control, management of third-party logistics service providers, and stock warehousing with minimization of 3PL costs/fleet. Most importantly, my job involves maintaining a good relationship with customers, suppliers, and the company's internal stakeholders.

My team is comprised of 10 supervisory staff who are assigned to work on KPIs with clear duties and responsibilities, 20 operational staff, and 39 distributional staff. I allow my team to be independent in solving their work-related challenges by motivating them and providing the necessary guidance to overcome them.

My ideal workday is when I'm able to satisfy every customer by ensuring that they receive their delivery on time, in perfect quality and without any discrepancy on quantity or price as this is one of our most significant company values.

I have had a successful journey ever since I started my career as a Logistics Supervisor years ago. I was appointed Employee of the Year in 2020 and that is the most significant accomplishment I have achieved in my Classic Fine Foods' career.

My job involves issuing local and imported products purchase orders, managing stock levels and product availability, ensuring product status and wastage data for potential issues, and actively interacting with the Sales team and Customer Service department relating to daily sales. I also work closely with the Warehouse team about daily stock checks to maintain stock accuracy, and expiry date tracking to maintain product freshness.

I am interested in all purchasing topics, but especially in Purchase Calculation reports: this is the calculation of planning orders before the goods are purchased. Another interesting topic is organizing import purchases with suppliers and forwarders, which is very detailed and takes forward planning.

I love solving problems at work and one of the best examples is when I make a claim with the insurers due to an incident or a glitch when receiving imported goods; I organize the team to collect as much data as possible to speed up the process so that it takes less time than the standard six months to be resolved. Another great day at work for me is when we have a special day to cook and eat together, usually after pay day.

I am currently working on the new warehouse expansion project in Jakarta with a larger capacity that will make controlling stock a lot easier. It is an exciting challenge.
